Woods Oviatt Gilman Labor Alert - Important New Changes to New York Labor Law
NEW YORK STATE SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY GUIDELINES
The New York State Labor Law has been amended effective October 9, 2018 and requires employers to provide sexual harassment training and to adopt or revise their existing sexual harassment policy to include specific information. Please note that this new law applies to ALL employers in New York State, who have at least one employee.
The New York State Department of Labor has opened a comment period for the draft regulations regarding the training and the policy guidelines which will end on September 12, 2018. Shortly after that, we expect that the regulations will be published in final form.
The Labor & Employment Law Group at Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP is monitoring the State's progress on this critical new law very closely. Once the regulations are in final form, we will be circulating a model sexual harassment policy to our clients for their use. In addition, we will be available to conduct the required sexual harassment training and will be able to tailor it to your specific business needs. Further, we will be offering in-firm training for HR personnel to ensure that they are fully equipped and prepared to meet the obligations of the new regulations and to provide in-house sexual harassment training on an annual basis.
Please stay tuned for future communications from the Labor Employment Law Group at Woods Oviatt Gilman LLP.
